Genexcel Ireland Ltd are a DAFM approved Cattle DIY-AI Trainer. Licence No. DIYTRN 008. Expert instruction is provided by a Cattle Reproduction Veterinary Specialist.

Our Cattle AI course is run in small groups to maximise the learning experience. The course is run over 5 days (1 theory day and 4 practical days).

During the Theory module (day 1) of the course, participants will learn about the following to optimise AI results:

• Anatomy of the female reproductive tract and organs.
• Explanation of oestrus cycle, duration of oestrus, methods of heat detection and optimum time to inseminate.
• Description of semen collection, processing and freezing.
• Handling, storing, and transport of semen.
• Regulations controlling the practice of A.I.
• Sanitation and disease prevention.
• Animal welfare issues related to use of A.I.

In conjunction with our training partners, Eurogene AI Services & LIC, Genexcel can offer trainees exclusive use of the only AI training simulator cow ‘Henryetta’ in Ireland. Use of this cow has been shown in New Zealand to accelerate learning and reduce the number of live cows required for training.

The practical days (days 2, 3, 4 & 5) involve live demonstration and active participation of students in the insemination of cattle.

Each student will inseminate a large variety of cows to ensure a good understanding of the correct process involved in successful A.I. The variety and volume of cattle used will ensure that each course participant has an excellent understanding and hands-on experience of Bovine insemination.

All required AI equipment as well as gowns, rectal gloves, lubricant, PPE etc.. are supplied when required on the practical days of the course.

On successful completion of the course, participants will be issued with an accredited training certificate which will allow them to obtain a DIY-AI Licence from the DAFM Livestock Breeding Division, Cavan.
